$3000 NSW Government Battery Rebate

What Is The Battery Rebate?

Key Information

Solar homeowners will be able to get discounted solar batteries, starting November 1, 2024. Solar batteries help save money on electricity bills by storing excess solar energy produced during the daytime for later consumption, as well as back up your home in the case of a blackout, and improve the stability of the electricity grid.

Nighttime electricity costs can be erased depending on the size of the battery. This cuts down grid consumption, meaning saving on usage costs.

Incentives include discounts on battery installation costs and rewards for connecting to a Virtual Power Plant (VPP). These benefits will be available starting November 1, 2024, through approved suppliers.

A VPP allows the energy stored in individual batteries to be aggregated and used to support the grid during high-demand periods, while also providing benefits to the homeowners in terms of lower energy costs. A VPP creates a network, for sharing, selling, and buying energy, between battery systems in the area.

With the use of a VPP plan, savings can be maximised as you share stored energy in a network with other battery solar homes.

The new incentive is part of the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme and includes:

  • –  between $1,600 and $2,400 off the up-front installation cost of a household

battery for homes and business with existing solar

  • –  for homes and businesses wanting to install solar, the incentive will be

considered in the quote for a new solar and battery system installation

  • –  a $250 to $400 incentive for connecting a battery to a Virtual Power Plant.

It can be claimed a second time, 3 years on.

FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of using a solar battery?

The benefits of using a solar battery include increased energy independence, reduced electricity bills, and the ability to use clean energy even when the sun is not shining.

How long do solar batteries last?

The lifespan of a solar battery can vary depending on factors such as the type of battery, usage patterns, and maintenance. On average, solar batteries can last anywhere from 5 to 15 years.

How do I choose the right solar battery for my home?

When choosing a solar battery for your home, consider factors such as your energy usage, budget, available space, and desired features. It’s also recommended to consult with a solar energy expert for personalised recommendations.

Can I connect my solar battery to a Virtual Power Plant?

Yes, many solar battery systems offer the option to connect to a Virtual Power Plant, allowing you to contribute excess energy to the grid and potentially earn rewards or incentives.

What is a solar battery?

A solar battery is a device that stores excess energy generated by solar panels during the day for use at night or during periods of low sunlight.

What savings could I expect on a Tesla Powerwall II?

Calculations based on addresses in the Ausgrid area are as follows:

– An eligible Tesla Powerwall II installation will earn 1077 PRCs. Using current PRC pricing, the battery will be discounted by approximately $2,000 including GST.

– By signing up to a VPP, a further 163 PRCs will be earned. Using current PRC pricing, the battery will be discounted a further approximate $300 including GST.

Why should I consider installing a solar battery?

Installing a solar battery allows you to store excess energy generated by your solar panels, reducing your reliance on the grid and potentially saving you money on your electricity bills.

How do solar batteries work?

Solar batteries store energy in the form of electricity produced by solar panels. This stored energy can be used when the sun is not shining, such as at night or during cloudy days.
