Solar Power in Mongolia

The nomadic lifestyle in Mongolia has been greatly enhanced by the adoption of photovoltaic (PV) solar panels and portable solar technology. When Mongolian families move their ger (yurt), they bring along solar panels, cables, and mounting poles. These panels are either set up on poles planted in the ground or strapped directly to the ger’s felt covering. The solar panels capture sunlight and convert it into electricity, which is then stored in batteries or routed through a solar inverter. This power is used to charge mobile phones, illuminate lightbulbs, and even run televisions, bringing modern conveniences to traditional nomadic life.
