Tesla Powerwall 3 Announced

Last week, Tesla’s highly anticipated Powerwall 3 was officially released in the US, for purchase on their website.

The following article will outline what we know about the Powerwall 3 and what to expect when it goes on sale in Australia.

Price

The Australian price has not been officially announced, but the US price is the same as the Powerwall 2. This price does not include the gateway or installation cost. If the price is the same as the Powerwall 2, in Australia, an installed Powerwall 3 with gateway could cost between $14,000 to $15,500 installed.

Built-In Battery Inverter

Much like the Powerwall 2, the Powerwall 3 is an AC coupled battery. This means that it comes with a built-in battery inverter, to convert AC to DC to charge the battery.

The Powerwall 3 comes with a built-in 11.5kW battery inverter. The Powerwall 2 had a built-in 5kW battery inverter. This is a significant upgrade, with 6 MPPTs, and being able to take up to 20kW of panels. This is amazing value as an equivalent 10kW hybrid inverter, such as Sungrow’s SH10RS, costs around $4,000 for the part alone.

DC Coupled Units

Up to 4 Powerwall 3s can be stacked.

The Powerwall 3 may offer DC coupled expansion units. These are Powerwall batteries without the built-in inverter.

Power vs Energy

The Powerwall 3 has a capacity of 13.5kWh and brings 11.5kW of continuous power output.
